How do I cite my sources?
Answer
The library offers MLA, APA, Chicago, and Turabian Citation Guides to help you. Follow the instructions on the guides and, if you need further assistance, contact a librarian.
You will need to cite your sources both in the body of your paper, speech or presentation, as well as at the end in a Works Cited, References page, or Bibliography.
- You cite within the body of your work to indicate to your audience what information or words you have borrowed, as well as from where you borrowed. In-text citation, generally parenthetical, points the audience to the full citation at the end.
- Your Works Cited or References page, depending on what format you are using, contains the full information for the source. This gives your audience the ability to find and use the sources that you borrowed from in your work. Readers may want to investigate your topic further using the same sources, check what you have said, or determine if you are using credible sources.
The specific formats for the in-text and full citations are provided by the Citation guides.
