What is a call number and how do I read it?

Answer

The Northeast State Library uses the Library of Congress Classification system. Each book is given a call number to place it on the shelves. The call number is basically an address for an item on a shelf in the library.

Use the links below for online tutorials created by other colleges that you can access online to help you understand the system.

If you need any help finding books on the shelves, please ask someone at the Circulation desk on the 2nd floor, or a librarian.
